Lecce boasts a fine coffee culture, from the outstanding local production of Quartà Caffè to the host of historical and noteworthy bars at which you can enjoy the local brew.

In the summertime, the Leccese tradition is to ask for a caffè in ghiaccio con latte di mandorla, that is a sort of coffee on the rocks sweetened with a few drops of 'almond milk'. Another local favourite is a nocciolino or a shot of strong black coffee poured over a scoop of hazelnut flavoured icecream.

The Provincial Museum contains an impressive number of archeological finds which lay testiment to the city's importance as a centre of civilization, learning and culture since Messapic times, through the Roman era and right up until modern times.

Times of the year recommended for a visit to Lecce:

All year round... Lecce has so much to offer that at any time of the year the city will keep visitors interested and entertained.
Christmas... The city of Lecce is particularly graceful and elegant when adorned with Christmas lights and opulent window displays. The Saint Lucy's Fair is a characteristic exhibition and marketplace for characters and figures for the Nativity Scenes to be set up in homes across the city and province during the festive season.
Weekend of Cortili Aperti (Open Courtyards)(usually the middle weekend of May) …this weekend provides a rare opportunity to see inside some of the most extravagent and elegant of Lecce's villas. The gates are left open for locals and tourists to delight in the gardens and courtyards of these usually provite residences.
